New Years Resolutions!

I hope everyone had a great time celebrating the New Year! One of the biggest parts of ringing in the New Year is setting some New Year's resolutions!  These long term goals should give you some things to focus on completing in 2014.  Along with these long term goals, short term goals can also help you to stay on track with these larger 2014 resolutions.  Here are some of my 2014 resolutions along with some short term goals for the next few months!

1) Get a Job - Since I will be graduating in May I'm certainly hoping to have a job secured by the end of this year!

In the next couple of months, my short term goals are to:
        - apply to as many school districts as possible
        - keep my resume up to date
        - focus on student teaching and learn all that I can from my co-op and other teachers I meet
        - take advantage of my schools career center to learn more about job searching and interviewing

2)  Lose Weight - At this point I am not comfortable enough to share my exact weight loss goals but I do want to lose weight and just aim to live a healthier lifestyle in general! I don't want to be skinny, I want to be healthy and fit!

In the next couple of months, my short term goals are to:
        - Go to the Gym 3-4 times a week - I got this super nice gym bag for Christmas so I can go right
from student teaching.  By the end of the year I'd like to be going to the gym 5-6 times a week.
        - Eat Healthy - I'm aiming to eat healthy 80% of the time leaving 20% to eat whatever else.
          Eventually I'd like to go to 90% - 10%
        - Drink lots and lots of water!

3) Save Money - Unfortunately I probably won't be working as much as usual in the next few months because I'll be student teaching during my spring semester.   But hopefully I'll find a job when I graduate in may!  I want to work on a savings plan to get in the habit of saving money for when I get a real job and have more expenses to cover.

In the meantime, here are my short term goals for the next few months:
      - During my winter break I want to take advantage of my time off from school to work a lot!
I have a subbing certificate and a serving job so between the two I'm hoping to save up some
money before starting my student teaching.
      - Bring my lunch to school everyday so I'm not buying lunch all the time.  Also, I want to go
grocery shopping weekly so I have food for lunches and food to make dinner at home every
night so I do not spend money going out to eat a lot.

4) Become a Better Blogger - as a new blogger I have a lot to learn! This year I want to take the time to learn more about the blogging world and get more involved in it! Hopefully throughout the year I'll be able to write better content and gain a bigger following.

My short term goals for the next few months are:
        - Take More Pictures! - I personally love when posts have pictures, It breaks up all the writing
and it also shows more about what the writing is trying to convey.
        - Write More - I'm hoping that the more I write, the better my writing will become! I am awful
with grammar, punctuation, and spelling as those of you who read my blog have probably
already noticed! Hoping with enough practice I'll eventually get better at all of this!
        - Write Posts With Quality Content - writing posts just to write posts wont get me anywhere!
Quality over quantity.  I'm hoping to delve into my creative side (I'm not very creative at all)
to come up with some more and better content for my posts!

5)  Stay Organized - One of the most important skills a teacher can have is organization! Organization can save you plenty of time and the hassle of looking for things you need.  With student teaching quickly approaching and a career in teaching in my future, setting a a way to stay organized in all aspects of my life is becoming more and more necessary.
My short term goals for the next few months are:
        - Keep my room clean.  At my house at school my room is basically the only place I have
completely to myself. Therefore my room is not only just a bedroom, it also doubles as my
office and work space as well.
        - Come up with a filing system for student teaching.  With all the lesson plans, units, worksheets,
and students work, paper work can easily pile up.  My goal is to come up with a system to
keep all the paper work in line while I'm student teaching.

6) Try New Things - I'd like to put myself out there a little bit more this year.  I have a close group of friend who I love to death but I'd still like to meet new people and expand my circle of friends! I would also love to get involved in more, and different things that interest me.

My short term goals for the next few months are:
        - Get more involved in things that interest me
        - Volunteer more
        - Make more plans to go out and see friends, old and new!

I will also be linking up this post over at Erica's blog Erica Ashley for her monthly goals link up. You can link up here as well! I linked up with her last month and loved it so I will certainly be continuing to do so!

Here were my goals for the month of December, lets see how I did!

1) Don't get lazy before finals-- This was definitely a success! I managed to get 3 A's and one A-

2) Eat healthy -- I'd say this was most certainly a fail!  The holidays got the best of me! Oh well... we'll try again this month!

3) Substitute as often as possible and SAVE some money -- I'm not sure why I made this a goal because between finals and the holidays I really had no opportunity to sub.  whoops! The save money part I can say I failed though! I love my friends and family too much and therefore spend too much money on them!

4) Keep up with Ashley's December Challenge over at her blog Run With Me -- fail! ... But i did go to the gym a decent amount so that sort of makes up for it!

5) Finish up my resume and start applying for jobs! -- Check! finally I did something!!!

 6) Continue to blog and take more photos. --  I think I did pretty good! I definitely have been taking more photos.. even my family has noticed my new obsession with taking photos! I did take a few days off from blogging because of finals and then again because of Christmas but I'd say that is acceptable!

Sorry for such a long post, and thanks for reading all the way through!

What are your 2014 new years resolutions?

  1. Great job last month!! I am in the same boat about subbing! I love your goal about staying organized and especially your room! I am really organized in school but I let my bedroom and bathroom become disasters! I am joining in with that goal! Can't wait to see how you do! Good luck with your 2014 goals :)
